Cocky

The bird which dominates the dish is the Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. Bossy and noisy.

You can’t get away from them, even in the supermarket car park… But we still wouldn’t be without them.

Sulphur Crested Cockatoo

#aussiebirdsketch by @linlovesart on Instagram, number 10 in a series

Not a very popular bird around our house… Very destructive of Joy’s plants and messy when they feast on our gum nuts! I will forgive Linda in her series of Australian birds for including them…

Rainbow Lorikeets

We’ve not had much traffic to capture over the last few days. Yesterday, a couple of Rainbow Lorikeets couldn’t get close to a drink as a bigger cousin was guarding it…

Cockawong

We’ve had a bit of rain lately, so there hasn’t been much incentive for local birds to come over and use the ‘bath… Cockatoos are always present, though, and Currawongs would like to get a look-in occasionally!

Taking turns

Is it “taking turns” or obeying a hierarchy? I’m pretty sure the Pigeon was waiting for the Cockatoo to finish… Two regular visitors of the bird bath!

The Birds

So we’re ready to capture some images! Here is a visit from a couple of Sulphur Crested Cockatoos. A common sight (and sound) around Blaxland. And, given the price, the camera is OK.

Switching the camera to video gives this result, go ahead and press “play”:

I’m tossing up whether to use photos or video. What do you think? email blaxlandbirds@gmail.com
